A feed is only as good as the dictionary behind it. On a technical matter, that preparation is most of the work.

  • Case, party, expert, and product names entered in advance from the pleadings and reports.
  • Specialized vocabulary — technical terms, part numbers, drug and device names, internal codenames — built into the job dictionary before the date.
  • Audio conditions confirmed ahead of time, because a feed cannot resolve what nobody could hear.
  • A reporter willing to interrupt crosstalk rather than let the feed fill with unusable text.
  • Rough drafts marked clearly as uncertified, so nothing uncorrected gets quoted as final.

How the feed works in practice

What software do I need to read the realtime feed?
The feed works with the common realtime viewers counsel already use, on a laptop or a tablet. Tell us which one your team reads on when you book, and the connection is tested before the date rather than in the first ten minutes of testimony.
Is a realtime feed the same as the transcript?
No. Realtime and the rough draft that comes out of it are uncertified and uncorrected working text. They are for questioning and strategy during the proceeding. The certified transcript is produced afterward and is the version that gets cited.
Can I get a rough draft the same day?
Usually, when realtime is booked. The rough draft is the realtime output cleaned up enough to be readable, delivered as an ASCII or PDF file. It carries the same uncertified caveat and should be marked that way in anything built from it.
Does realtime work on a remote deposition?
Yes. The feed is delivered over a secure connection independent of the video platform, so counsel can read the transcript on one screen and watch the witness on another.
What makes a realtime feed accurate on a technical case?
Preparation before the date. Case names, party names, expert names, products, and specialized vocabulary go into the dictionary in advance, built from the pleadings and reports. A term that was entered ahead of time appears correctly the first time it is spoken instead of arriving as a phonetic guess.
